Rivian R1T (2026)
Rivian · Electric trucks
88/100
Low confidence 6 independent sources

Across eight full reviews from six independent editorial groups, the 2026 Rivian R1T is judged the benchmark electric pickup and, in Quad form, one of the most capable vehicles on sale. Only two of the six groups publish a number: 8/10 from Top Gear and 9.5/10 from MotorTrend; The Drive also scored a first drive 9.5/10, but a first drive is context, not a full review. Reviewers agree on ride, packaging and the Gear Tunnel, and on three shared faults: charging speed, an overloaded touchscreen and a price that only works below Quad level. Six of the eight tested the Quad and none tested a Dual.

Best for: Buyers who need one vehicle for towing, trails and daily use. Car and Driver calls the R1T the electric pickup to beat, Road & Track calls it comprehensively engineered and InsideEVs says nothing else is this comfortable on the trail; the Max pack tows 11,000 lb and the Dual Max is EPA-rated at 420 miles.; Buyers who put software and packaging above raw power. MotorTrend names the Dual Motor Performance the trim that hits the sweet spot, InsideEVs says a Dual with the Large battery is 90 per cent as good for $38,000 less, and the price ladder only makes sense below Quad level.; Buyers who want the quickest production pickup and the engineering toys that come with it. 1,025 hp, a 10.6-second quarter mile at 128 mph, the Quad-exclusive RAD Tuner with ten variables and Kick Turn: The Drive named it Best Truck of 2026 and Edmunds gave it Top Rated Electric Truck for a second year.

Skip it if: You need the fastest charging in the class. Rivian claims a 220 kW peak, the highest figure MotorTrend has observed is 204 kW, and 10 to 80 per cent takes 30 to 45 minutes; Top Gear, Car and Driver and MotorTrend all list charging speed as a fault.; You want physical buttons, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Autocar, The Drive, Top Gear, the Detroit Free Press, AutoGuide and Jalopnik all raise it: climate and mirror controls live in the 15.6-inch screen and phone mirroring is not offered even as an option.; You need a large bed or 11,000 lb of towing from an entry trim. The bed is 4.5 ft, 11,000 lb requires the Max pack, the Gen 2 Dual Standard and Dual Large are limited to 7,700 lb and 5,000 lb without a weight-distributing hitch, and Car and Driver measured 110 miles at 70 mph towing 6,100 lb.

Tesla Model Y (2026)
Tesla · Electric vehicles
81/100
Medium confidence 8 independent sources

Across 19 qualifying full reviews in eight independent editorial groups, the 2026 Tesla Model Y is judged a substantially improved family EV rather than a reinvented one. It is the Juniper body Tesla launched in 2025, carried into 2026 with a larger pack and renamed trims. Scores run from 3/5 (Parkers) to 5/5 (What Car?), 9/10 (Carwow) and 80/100 (WhichEV and Electrek). Reviewers agree the refresh fixed ride, refinement, efficiency and space, and that the all-screen cabin, no Apple CarPlay and paywalled lane centring remain faults. Range splits them: 70 to 75 mph tests returned 252 to 279 miles.

Best for: Families who need maximum space for the money. Autocar calls the boot enormous and a match for a full-size estate; What Car? fitted ten carry-on cases where the Audi Q4 e-tron, Kia EV6 and Renault Scenic took seven; Car and Driver lists 71 cubic feet behind row one plus a frunk.; Buyers who rank software, charging network and efficiency above driving feel. Electrek, InsideEVs, What Car? and Autocar put the interface and Supercharger integration at or near the top of the class, and Electrek measured 135.9 Wh/km over 550 km against a 136.4 Wh/km rating.; UK buyers who want the cheapest credible long-range family EV. The renamed entry car lists at £41,925 to £41,990 with PCP from £300 a month and an insurance group cut from 37 to 34; Auto Express, What Car? and Top Gear all pick a Long Range variant as the value trim.

Skip it if: You want physical controls, Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, or an instrument cluster. Autocar, Carwow, MotorTrend, Electrek, de.motor1.com, WhichEV and Parkers all raise it, and Parkers calls screen-only mirror adjustment dangerous.; Ride comfort outranks everything else. Parkers rates comfort 3 out of 5 and calls the car untenably jiggly, MotorTrend says the ride improved but not enough, and Autocar still finds the Long Range RWD taut.; You need real-world range to match the label, or you drive at 70 to 75 mph in the cold. Instrumented tests returned 252 to 279 miles against 306 to 327-mile EPA labels, and winter runs returned 3.3 to 3.6 mi/kWh.
