eufy Video Doorbell E340
eufy · Video doorbells · Model T8214111 · E340 · Variant: Matte Black · Markets: US, GB, DE
eufy's 2023 dual-camera doorbell as 11 reviews from 7 independent groups judged it: 8 GB of local storage with no subscription and a second camera for the doorstep, at the cost of measured alert latency and a bulky, HomeKit-less body.
Verdict
Eleven professional reviews from seven independent editorial groups agree on the eufy Video Doorbell E340's core case: two cameras that finally cover the doorstep, plus 8 GB of local recording with no subscription, at a price that has fallen to about $120-150. The cost is speed - one group timed alerts at an average 11.5 seconds - and a bulky, HomeKit-less body. Reviewers describe it as the best-value dual-camera doorbell for package-heavy homes; none calls it the quickest.
Why medium confidence: 7 independent editorial groups. Score spread (standard deviation) of 5.8 points. Reviewers disagree on a decisive attribute: Video quality, Detection and alerts, Local storage, Value and subscription. Most qualifying reviews are older than 18 months. Open alerts indicate the evidence may change soon. Only 5 of 7 independent groups publish a numeric score.

Common criticisms
No criticism was shared by enough independent sources to count as consensus.
Where reviewers disagree
- Video quality
· 3 positive, 1 negative, 3 mixed
Which sources said this
- Yahoo Tech — positive: That 2K video looks sharp under all kinds of lighting conditions while keeping the fisheye effect to a minimum.
- tweak.dk — mixed: Delivered good results throughout the test; the reservation is that minor features such as package monitoring should be improved.
- PCMag UK — positive: The top camera delivered sharp 2K video with well-saturated colours by day and crisp black-and-white at night, and the bottom camera gave a clear view of the steps.
- connect.de — mixed: Very good picture and sound quality, but the review says both cameras resolve 2048x1536 and quotes a 150-degree field of view, both at odds with other sources.
- Digital Camera World — negative: In low light there is a smoothing of detail that looks like heavy JPEG processing and the dynamic range is not the greatest; the verdict calls the step camera 1080p while the same page's spec sheet says 1600x1200.
- Pocket-lint — mixed: Quotes a 140-degree field of view, narrower than the 160 degrees the manufacturer publishes; the image quality itself is not faulted.
- SafeWise (Australia) — positive: Both cameras are exceptionally clear, even at night, thanks to colour night vision and lights at the top and bottom of the doorbell.
- Detection and alerts
· 2 positive, 3 negative
Which sources said this
- Yahoo Tech — negative: The maximum interval between triggers is 60 seconds, called better but still not ideal; the Echo Hub repeatedly said the doorbell was not responding and the Pixel Tablet worked inconsistently.
- PCMag UK — positive: Doorbell press and motion alerts arrived instantly, two-way audio was clean and loud, and Delivery Guard and Uncollected Package alerts arrived swiftly with Package Live Check working.
- Homes & Gardens — negative: The only gripe is the lag in accessing live events, flagged to the manufacturer, and it is slower to open live events than an older Ring doorbell when further from the router.
- Pocket-lint — negative: The app would occasionally freeze for a second or two when opening the live view, happening quite a few times and frustrating attempts to see who was at the door.
- SafeWise (Australia) — positive: The E340 is very fast to load when on the same Wi-Fi as the doorbell, and Delivery Guard is described as practically porch pirate-proof.
- Local storage
· 5 positive, 1 negative, 1 mixed
Which sources said this
- Yahoo Tech — mixed: 8GB of onboard storage is the headline feature, said to hold 60 days of recordings rather than 90, and the optional HomeBase S380 is credited with 1TB rather than 16TB.
- tweak.dk — positive: Instead the device has 8GB of internal storage that saves the recordings locally.
- PCMag UK — positive: Motion and doorbell events record to the doorbell's 8GB eMMC memory without a subscription, and an optional HomeBase S380 adds up to 16TB.
- connect.de — negative: keine Speicherung ohne optionales Zubehoer: no storage without an optional accessory, with recording going to a microSD card in the optional chime or to the HomeBase S380.
- Digital Camera World — positive: The microSD slot in the chime is called clever because image storage is better protected against the video doorbell being stolen, and the system does not rely on a subscription.
- Pocket-lint — positive: This model comes with 8GB of local storage, which Eufy says is enough for 90 days of video.
- SafeWise (Australia) — positive: Local 8GB recording is presented as the core proposition, with the manufacturer's 90-day storage figure repeated and no subscription required.
- Installation
· 3 positive, 2 negative, 1 mixed
Which sources said this
- Yahoo Tech — negative: Chime setup required wiring that is not mentioned in the print guide, resolved only by the instructions inside the app.
- PCMag UK — positive: Headlined as stress-free installation: installing the E340 is a breeze.
- connect.de — positive: Installation and mounting rated very good in the scored breakdown.
- Digital Camera World — negative: The chime supplied in the kit would not connect and could not be tested after more than four hours; installation needs a couple of drill holes unless a third-party adhesive mount is bought.
- How-To Geek — positive: Everything needed to mount the E340 was in the box and installing the doorbell was a simple process, with the router or phone on 2.4GHz during setup.
- SafeWise (Australia) — mixed: Installing the doorbell is a relatively fool-proof endeavour, but the review notes that Eufy still offers no renter-friendly solution: it requires drilling.
- Value and subscription
· 4 positive, 1 negative, 2 mixed
Which sources said this
- Yahoo Tech — positive: It does not saddle you with a monthly fee for things like video storage and package detection.
- tweak.dk — positive: No features are locked behind a running subscription and there are no ongoing costs; the review says eufy wins well on price.
- PCMag UK — mixed: You get two cameras and features many competitors charge extra for, but at $179.99 it is not exactly cheap and its price sits near the top of the market.
- connect.de — mixed: Price/performance rated good, but the chime at around EUR 40 and the HomeBase S380 at around EUR 180 are extra costs on top of the doorbell.
- Digital Camera World — positive: This is a system that does not rely on a subscription, though the review notes that it is not the least expensive video doorbell.
- Pocket-lint — negative: Higher price point listed as a con: at a premium price with a rough aesthetic, the E340 is not compelling enough on its own to warrant leaving an existing ecosystem.
- SafeWise (Australia) — positive: The price has come down considerably, to AU$349.95, which makes for a far more attractive value proposition.

What buyers report
Buyer comments frequently mention:
- Battery that stops holding a charge within weeks
- Live view taking 20 to 30 seconds to load when the doorbell rings
What creators showed
Best for
- Homes that receive a lot of parcels. The downwards-facing camera is the strongest point of agreement in the dossier: 10 of the 11 reviews list it as a strength, none disputes its usefulness, and it drives the Delivery Guard and Uncollected Package alerts.
- Buyers who refuse a subscription. Eight gigabytes record inside the doorbell with no monthly fee, clips can be viewed and notifications received without a plan, and the cloud is optional at $3 or $10 a month.
- Installs that must use battery power or reuse existing doorbell wiring, and households already inside the eufy ecosystem where the doorbell pairs with a HomeBase, an Add-On Chime or an Echo and Google display.
Skip it if
- You need an instant alert or live view. Expert Reviews measured an average 11.5 seconds from trigger to live stream, more than twice the TP-Link Tapo D230S1, and Homes & Gardens and Pocket-lint independently report the same lag.
- You want Apple HomeKit, Matter or IFTTT. All three are absent, confirmed by the manufacturer and by PCMag, and no source published in 2026 reports an addition.
- You rent, or want something discreet. Installing it means drilling, which four groups note leaves renters without an option, and reviewers across four groups call the body big, bulky or something of an eyesore.
- The decisive attribute is contradicted by one of the seven groups and the dispute is unresolved. connect.de states 'keine Speicherung ohne optionales Zubehoer' - no storage without an optional accessory - and routes recording to a microSD card in the optional chime or to the HomeBase S380, against the manufacturer's 8 GB eMMC specification and the other six sources. No side is chosen here: local_storage remains a Split Verdict.
- Alert latency is a measured disagreement, not an impression. Expert Reviews timed 6.2 seconds to show the alert plus 5.3 seconds to open the live stream, an 11.5-second average, against 5.1 seconds for the TP-Link Tapo D230S1 and 2.4 seconds for the Ring Video Doorbell Plus. PCMag reports alerts arriving instantly, while Homes & Gardens and Pocket-lint report lag; the sources disagree on the cause, blaming the app, the distance from the router and the app again respectively.
- The advertised battery life is inconsistent inside the manufacturer's own material: six months in T3, Expert Reviews and tweak.dk against four months in PCMag, Yahoo Tech and Pocket-lint. No review published a long-term runtime test, and the buyer reports of failure within two weeks cannot be verified.
- Apple HomeKit, Matter and IFTTT are all missing, confirmed by the manufacturer's FAQ and by PCMag, with Alexa and Google Assistant the only integrations. Yahoo Tech records the Echo Hub repeatedly reporting that the doorbell was not responding and the Pixel Tablet working inconsistently.
- Price is falling and the assessment of value moved with it. Launch price was $179.99 in 2023; on 30 September 2026 the doorbell was $149.99 at eufy.com US and $119.99 on Amazon US, about a third below what the 2024 reviews were judging, and the site announced an October Prime Day 2026 window for 6-7 October. On the same day Amazon UK showed no featured offer and Amazon DE would not dispatch the item.
- Video quality is only partly agreed. The resolution of the downwards camera is unestablished at 1,600 x 1,200, 1080p or 2,048 x 1,536, the field of view is published as 160, 150 or 140 degrees, and only Digital Camera World reports heavy smoothing of detail in low light. No source published a bench measurement, so all image evidence here is qualitative except the latency timing.
- The chime is regional and it failed in at least one formal test. Digital Camera World's kit chime would not connect and could not be tested after more than four hours, the US doorbell is sold without a chime in the box, and buyers either rely on an Echo or Google display or add the Add-On Chime at about $39.99.
- Local storage capacity is described inconsistently. The manufacturer's FAQ says 8 GB holds 90 days of video, a figure SafeWise AU and Pocket-lint repeat, while Yahoo Tech and How-To Geek both attribute 60 days to eufy. HomeBase capacity is quoted at up to 16 TB by most sources and 1 TB by Yahoo Tech, and because the recording sits in the doorbell, whoever removes it takes the evidence with it.
- The review count overstates the diversity. Eleven reviews come from seven editorial groups, but four of the eleven are Future plc titles (T3, Expert Reviews, Homes & Gardens, Digital Camera World) and two are Valnet titles (How-To Geek, Pocket-lint), so discarding one owner removes four reviews at once. PCMag Australia is the same Ziff Davis review redistributed, and the two further Yahoo E340 pages are syndication from T3 and Digital Camera World confirmed by their bylines, so Yahoo is counted once, for Rick Broida's original.
- Buyer Signal is bimodal rather than merely large. Across Amazon US, UK, DE and CA the five-star share runs between 61 and 67 percent while the one-star share runs between 12 and 15 percent, a shape that echoes the complaints about battery charge and live-view latency in the captured reviews. The Canadian listing was carrying a review of the C31 rather than the E340, the US listing pools several kits and accessories under one count, and the eBay refurbished entry at 4.9 from 15 ratings is the manufacturer's own outlet channel and is not a quality signal.
- Every qualifying source monetises through affiliate links. None of the eleven reviews and none of the six creator videos declared a sponsor or a provided unit, but SafeWise AU, the joint-highest score at 4.5/5, states that it 'utilises paid affiliate links' and its main call to action is 'View on Eufy'. Its ownership could not be confirmed beyond the site's own copyright line, and Tweak APS is the other standalone owner in the set.
- Scope and access limits. PCMag also reviewed an 'Eufy E340 Floodlight Camera', which shares the E340 name but is a floodlight with a camera and not this doorbell, so it is excluded along with the eufy Floodlight Cam E340 announced alongside the doorbell. Three further candidate reviews could not be read: Trusted Reviews and The Ambient returned HTTP 403 and The Telegraph sits behind a paywall that was not bypassed, so the group count could not be enlarged beyond seven.

How we reached this verdict
11 full professional reviews qualified, representing 7 independent editorial groups, published between Nov 2023 and Apr 2026. Each group counts once and weighs the same; when a group has several titles, their scores are averaged into one. Scores were converted linearly to a 0–100 scale, and the number rests on the 5 groups that publish one; reviews without a score inform the consensus but not the number. Buyer and creator signals are shown separately and are not averaged into the Quorum Score. Research cut-off: Sep 30, 2026. Methodology 1.1. Main limitation: only 5 of 7 independent groups publish a numeric score. Read the methodology.
